State officials sue auto bonds company
A company allegedly selling bogus bonds as a replacement for standard auto insurance has been sued by Florida's attorney general and targeted for shutdown by the state insurance commissioner.
The company, Global Healings Society, had an estimated 425 victims in Florida, many of them in South Florida's Haitian community, the regulators said.
State regulators believe the company, based in Graham, Wash., sold about 1,050 so-called ''auto bonds'' nationwide over the Internet.
The company isn't licensed as an insurer in Florida and auto bonds don't meet the state requirements for insurance. Carrying an auto bond card isn't proof of insurance for drivers.
The company's operations also have been barred in Washington state.
